Lake Land College’s Gray signs with Purdue University North Central
May 14, 2014
Libero defensive specialist Naomi Gray, Effingham, has signed to play volleyball at Purdue University North Central for the 2014-2015 school year.
The Lake Land College volleyball alumnae, who completed an associate degree in math education, will receive a scholarship to continue to play at the Indiana school.
“I am so happy to continue to play college ball,” explained Gray. “I would have been very sad to move onto another school and not have this opportunity. I’m looking forward to getting out there and meeting new people while at the same time committing myself to the game.”
Gray will complete her bachelor’s degree in secondary education, specializing in math.
“We are very excited to see Naomi get a chance to continue her career as a student athlete,” said Amory Porter, head volleyball coach for Lake Land. “Naomi has been a tremendous asset to our program over the past two seasons. Not only has she excelled on the court, she has been an outstanding student in the classroom. She has shown great leadership and has been a great role model for other student athletes on campus. She has been a very big part of our success and she will be greatly missed next season. As a coach, I couldn't be more proud and I know she will continue to do great things on the court and in the classroom.”
During her time at Lake Land, Gray was honored, being named as a member of the First Team All-Tournament Team twice, Second Team All-Conference and honorable mention All-District.
“I’m going to miss Lake Land a lot – my teammates, our coaches and everything this school has to offer, but I feel ready to move forward and take on the next challenges that come,” said Gray.
Purdue University North Central is a regional campus within the Purdue University system that is located in rural LaPorte County near Westville in northwestern Indiana.
