Lake Land College library awarded grant by Illinois State Library

March 17, 2014

The Learning Resource Center at Lake Land College has been selected as a grant recipient from the Illinois State Library for its project Full STEAM Ahead: Implementing Common Core Materials into the Post-Secondary Classroom.

The project, which will be implemented by the grant’s author, Sarah Hill, information services librarian, will introduce Lake Land College education students to quality books that address science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) education, the Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards. Grant funds will purchase informational texts targeting K-12 students. Programs about the education standards and informational books will be offered to students, faculty and community members by Hill.

“The goal of this project is to give our students, faculty and community members a better understanding of the new standards and the available resources to teach them” said Hill. “This project is needed to increase awareness of the recent changes to K-12 curriculum and the library resources to support them.”

The project begins April 1 and will run until Sept. 30. Grant programming will be held in August and September. The college was awarded $2,500 to implement the project.
