Lake Land College holds 2015 GED Graduation Ceremony

This year, 32 students from the Lake Land College Adult Education and program passed the GED exam. To honor their accomplishments, a cap and gown ceremony was recently held in the college theater located in the Robert K. Luther Student Center.

Members of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), selected Lake Land College Information Services Librarian Sarah Hill as the division’s next president-elect. Nate Bible, Louisville, has been named the 2015 Adult Student of the Year by Lake Land College.

Like many non-traditional students, Bible overcame a lot of challenges and barriers which kept him from reaching his academic and career goals early in life. But according to nominator Marlene Meek, administrative assistant to Student Life, Bible chose to come to Lake Land College to further his education and learn skills for a better career after his previous employer downsized.

Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond High School placed first overall at the annual Business and Computer Contest sponsored by the Lake Land College Business Division and Club IT. Beecher City High School was the runner up, followed by Charleston High School.

Each spring at Lake Land College, the Faculty Association and Student Ambassadors square off to raise money for the Lake Land College Faculty Association Scholarship. This year, the annual Faculty vs. Student Softball Game raised $1,230 for the scholarship. The event, in its 13th year, has raised $17,374.36 overall.

Lake Land College offers Ag Institute I, II and III

Lake Land College Ag Institutes are designed for K-12 educators to learn the amazing impact agriculture has on our daily lives.  By touring agriculture businesses and farms, by meeting with industry professionals, and by engaging in hands-on activities, participants will gain first-hand knowledge they can share with their students as well as lesson plans relating to state of Illinois teaching standards.  Lake Land College agriculture instructors Jon Althaus, Ryan Orrick and Dyke Barkley will teach and organize the Ag Institute tours and stops.
