Lake Land College library to host presentation on K-12 learning standards

August 27, 2014

The Lake Land College Learning Resource Center (LRC) is hosting two discussions regarding recent changes to K-12 curriculum and the resources available to students, faculty and community members in order to better understand these new standards.

The sessions will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 17 from noon until 1 p.m. in the Luther Student Center Theater on campus in Mattoon. The second session will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 12:15-1 p.m. at the Kluthe Center in Effingham, room 201.

The LRC recently received a grant from the Illinois State Library entitled Full Steam Ahead: Implementing Common Core Materials into the Post-Secondary Classroom.  The discussions are part of the outreach component of the grant to help spread awareness about the new K-12 standards for science, math, and English and how quality non-fiction books can support the curriculum and the child’s learning.

“The goal of this project is to give our students, faculty and community members a better understanding of the new standards and the available resources to teach them” said Hill. “This project is needed to increase awareness of the recent changes to K-12 curriculum and the library resources to support them.”

Students, staff, faculty and community members are invited to attend these sessions. For more information or to register for a session, contact Sarah Hill, information services librarian, at 217-234-5440 or shill@lakelandcollege.edu.
