Lake Land College Alumni Association seeking donations for One Stop Community Christmas
With the holiday season right around the corner, Lake Land College is working to help make the holidays more joyous for area families in need. On Saturday, Dec. 14, the Lake Land College Alumni Association, in conjunction with the Student Life Office, is hosting One Stop Community Christmas and the Alumni Association is currently seeking donations to help make this year’s event better than ever.
Through One Stop Community Christmas, families in need receive a variety of items including clothing, toys and food. The Alumni Association and campus community are charged with providing pajamas for children ages 10-18 years. Families who participate in One Stop Community Christmas are from Coles, Clark, Cumberland, Edgar, Shelby and Douglas counties.
“Hundreds of families will be served through this event,” said Dave Cox, director of the foundation and alumni. “We are encouraging community members, groups, employees, our students, and particularly our Lake Land alumni, to strongly consider monetary donations in order for the committee to purchase the correct breakdown of sizes for each age and gender. The committee has set a goal of collecting $7,500 or 750 pairs of pajamas and we need everyone’s help to make this goal a reality.”
There are many ways to contribute to this effort. To give online, visit www.lakeland.cc.il.us/dv/alu and select the “One Stop Shop Christmas” giving button. Or, send your donation to the Alumni Association at:

Checks can be made payable to the Lake Land College Alumni Association. All contributions to the Alumni Association are tax deductible.
“This is a big undertaking for the Alumni Association but it fits really well into our mission of promoting Lake Land College and these 10-18 year olds are our future students and alumni,” said Cox. “There is a big need for assistance around the holidays and this is a great program that reaches many families. The fact that it is being held on our campus this year is a bonus in that we can showcase Lake Land College and the benefits of a college education. I really encourage our alumni to get behind this venture and support it with a gift either online, mail or visit us on campus.”
The deadline for donations is Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013.
One Stop Community Christmas is made possible through a combined effort of local giving groups working to make Christmas special for many local families in need.
