Lake Land College Community Choir begins rehearsals this month in October
The Lake Land College Community Choir will begin its fall rehearsals Tuesday, Oct. 1. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday nights in the Lake Land College Theater from 7-9:30 p.m.
The choir is a group of approximately 55 mixed voices including students, college employees, and members of the community. All singers age 18 and older are welcome to participate and no audition is required.
Choir members may earn one hour of college credit for singing in the choir. Interested singers can complete a registration form at the first rehearsal, or current Lake Land students can register online through IRIS, under class number MUS-104-11565. Registration for college credit is not required, however, and participation in the choir is free for those who do not register.
“Choir members tell me they enjoy the opportunity to sing a variety of music with a large group of singers of all ages,” said Nancy Caldwell, music instructor at Lake Land College and director of the choir. “I choose several challenging numbers each semester and the choir has really grown musically in the years we’ve been together. Singing arrangements of favorite Christmas songs, as we do each fall, is always a treat.”
Caldwell also recognized the faithful participation of singers from surrounding communities, noting that some of the choir members have been part of the group for as long as ten years.
“We always look forward to catching up at the first rehearsal in the fall,” said Caldwell. “We are like an extended family of music lovers.”
The fall season will conclude with a concert on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 3 p.m. in the Theatre. The concert will feature Scottish folk songs as well as favorites from the musical My Fair Lady, including “On the Street Where You Live” and “The Rain in Spain.” The rest of the program celebrates Christmas, with a set of traditional French carols as well as pop favorites “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.”
