They may also appear on social media sites. If you object to having a photograph of your child taken and/or used in this manner, please contact Community and Professional Programs at (217) 234-5219 prior to the first meeting of your child's class.

Benchworx

BenchWorx is a mobile education program designed to introduce the art of woodworking to school age children. The classes are conducted in a custom designed trailer fitted with 16 woodworking stations, which have been designed to adjust in height to accommodate children of all sizes. Children will accumulate a working knowledge of techniques like sanding, sawing, shaping, drilling, setting screws, using clamps, hammering and incising. They will learn about different types of wood and design projects using wood, basic hand tools and their imagination. Creative problem solving is instrumental and will be utilized throughout the process of designing and building their wood projects. No experience is necessary and all tools and materials required to make the projects are provided. This session for ages 8-11.
