What is federal work study (FWS)?

The Federal Work Study program is a need-based program that provides opportunities for eligible students to earn part-time wages through on-campus employment. Earnings can be used to help pay for the student’s cost of attendance at Lake Land College.

How do I apply?

Students indicate interest in the Federal Work Study program when completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If eligible, you will receive an award letter with a Federal Work Study award indicated. A Work Study Application will be included with the award letter, which must be completed and returned to the Financial Aid Office.

How am I placed in a Work Study position?

Students are matched with Work Study positions on campus according to their skills and date the application was received. The student is sent a Work Study Interview form which indicates a department where there is a position opening and the supervisor to contact for the job. It is the student’s responsibility to set up an interview with that supervisor.

How much will I work?

Work Study students normally work between 10-12 hours per week in various departments. Generally, a student will work in between classes if there is a lengthy break or on days when they do not have class. There are no weekend hours and usually no evening hours.

How much will I earn?

A standard Work Study award is $2400. This is the maximum amount that may be earned by the student during the academic year. This amount is subject to change or be revoked if at any time the student receives any additional resources (scholarships, third party awards, etc.) which would cause them to become over awarded with financial aid.

What is the hourly wage?

Students are paid the minimum wage rate which is $8.25 per hour.
