Mental Wellness

Study stressStarting college is a time of transition. You will be surrounded by new people, adjusting to more homework and maybe juggling school with work. With college comes increased responsibility. All of these things can cause stress. It takes time to adjust to starting college, whether you are 18 or 48! It is normal to feel stress and uneasiness for up to three months.

If you continue to feel any of the following symptoms after three months, you might be suffering from clinical depression

Wipe out stress
  • Depressed most days
  • Inability to sleep or sleeping too much
  • Lack of appetite or overeating
  • Loss of energy
  • Loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy
  • Feelings of worthlessness
  • Thoughts of suicide

If you are experiencing these symptoms get help. Click here for resources in YOUR COMMUNITY.

Also, remember Counseling Services is here to help with any student concerns. We can help with time and stress management and make referrals for mental health services in your area. If you are on campus and having difficulty, stop by and see us or call (217)-234-5232. We are located in the Student Center.
