LLC Softball Skills Evaluation/Recruting Workshops

The dates will be December 15th, January 19th, & February 2nd, all being held on Sundays, at Lake Land College in Mattoon, Il. As a college coach and co-founder of Elite Softball, an organization designed to assist high school softball players with recruiting, I have found that most if not all players and parents don't fully grasp the concept of the recruiting process. As a parent of four past college athletes I can appreciate the frustration and confusion of any parent and player. Recruiting is not an exact science. I'm still amazed why one coach recruits one player and another coach recruits another. As parents and players, you spend thousands of dollars traveling to countless tournaments and college camps, in addition to joining recruiting services all in hopes of landing that all important NCAA D-1 scholarship. I'm certainly not implying that these things are all bad, in fact, they are very much a part of the recruiting process. Every good college program has a recruiting plan and so should you.

The purpose of our Softball Skills Evaluation/Recruiting Workshop is to help you gain a better understanding and have a clearer picture of the recruiting process. The purpose of this workshop is to help you at whatever level you wish to pursue whether it be at a four year or a two year institution. This is certainly not a workshop for Lake Land College only, it is intended to provide a variety of options for you to explore as you pursue your college choice. At this event players will be measured in all softball athletic skills and will be shown how you compare to other players your age, while gaining a better understanding of what college level may be best for you. The workshop will include topics such as how to write a proper email to a coach, how to get noticed at a camp or tournament, how to write a resume, how to make a video, etc. Our Softball Skills Evaluation/Recruiting Workshops are not just for players, but also for parents and coaches as well since it takes all of you to implement a successful recruiting plan.

I want to be perfectly clear, if you believe you are coming to learn about how to hit, throw, or catch better this isn't the camp for you. However, being coaches and teachers we can't help but to give some instruction if there is a chance it would help improve your skills. Are we guaranteeing that you will get a scholarship by attending, by no means. In the end that all depends on you and how you play and how well you implement your recruiting plan. What you will leave with is a greater understanding of yourself and the recruiting process. If nothing else, you will be taking home equipment worth $85, and a recruiting booklet with tons of information to help you with your recruiting plan. Attached is an article I wrote an update each year called "Choosing the Right College Fit". I hope you take some time to read it. You can find the LLC Softball Skills Evaluation/Recruiting Workshop registration application with more information and the itinerary attached to this email as well.
