Brent McNeil joins the Lakers this spring as Pitching Coach & Recruiting Coordinator. A native of Lafayette, IN, Brent was a 2007 graduate of Jefferson High School. He earned his associate’s degree in general studies at Lincoln Trail College in 2009 and received his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and sport’s studies from Eastern Illinois University in 2012.
This summer, McNeil will also serve as the 2014 Pitching Coach of the Danville Dan’s in the collegiate Prospect League in Danville, IL. Prior to Lake Land, McNeil served as Pitching Coach & Recruiting Coordinator to NJCAA DII’s Hesston College (KS) for the fall of 2013. He also spent time in 2012 as pitching coach of the elite traveling team, Lid’s Indiana Bulls 18U. McNeil’s staff posted a perfect 6-0 tournament record, becoming back-to-back National Premier League Champions. Many Bulls’ players went on to play college baseball, including 18 at the NCAA DI level, one DII, one DIII and four at the JC level.
While at LT, McNeil was a starting pitcher as well as a second basemen for the Statesmen. In 2009 he finished his sophomore year as an All-GRAC pitcher. Compiling a 7-2 record with a 1.75 ERA, collecting 52 strikeouts while only issuing 15 walks in 48 innings before signing at NCAA Div. I EIU, who peaked on the DI poll at 23rd in the nation that year.
In his time with the Panthers, he finished his 2010 junior season leading the OVC and ranking fifth nationally in pickoffs with nine along with a team high 24 appearances. Brent also finished his 2011 senior season leading the OVC and ranking 43rd nationally for lowest ERA with a 2.18 along with being voted EIU’s Pitcher of the Year.
In 2012 McNeil signed a professional contract with the Traverse City Beach Bums of the Frontier League.
