Missouri Standout Signs with Lakers

Mattoon, IL - On the first official signing day of 2013, Cedric Brown and the Lake Land College Lakers sign Tyrin Williams (Riverview Gardens HS) of St. Louis, Missouri to a National Letter of Intent for the 2013-2014 season.  Willians was Riverview's leading scorer at 23ppg and dished out close to double figures as well with 9 per contest. "He is a bonafide scorer", said Coach Brown. "His court awareness is his strength that makes his teammates better", replied Brown.

The 5'8 170 PG will bring to last year's 19-12 team a true competitive lead guard, which will help last season's 2nd leading scorer Harold McBride, Jr. (14ppg) to continue the Laker's success.

Lakers make their choice for next level

Mattoon, IL - The gueling season is over, and Spring is in the air. Student-athletes are making life-changing decisions about their academic and athletic future. Two Lakers have decided where they will take their talents after Lake Land College.  The 6'5 Sophomore shooting guard Logan Carson (DuQuion, IL), has decided to go to McKendree University (Lebanon, IL) to finish his degree and his playing career.  Carson averaged 9 ppg and was selected as a 2nd team selection to the Great Rivers Athletic Conference (GRAC) in his Sophomore campaign and helped his 2013 class to a 41-23 record over two seasons.

Devin Carter, a 6'4 wing from Champaign Centennial High School has chosen to take his talents to the Mid American Conference (MAC) and Kent State University where he will play for one of Coach Brown's colleagues and good friend Rob Senderoff.  Carter was selected as the Freshman of the Year in the GRAC and was also selected as a first team All-GRAC and first team All-Region 24 member.  Carter averaged 18 ppg and scored over 25 points several times in his freshman campaign.

New Jersey's finest chooses the Lakers

Mattoon, IL - Coach Brown strikes gold again from his East Coast roots. He signed Tahlib Swan a 6'4 wing out of Monclair HS in Montclair, NJ. He averaged 15 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block during his senior campaign. Swan was a 2-year captain and a 3-year Varsity starter. After his senior year he played in both the North-South and East-West NJ All-star games. Swan was also named to the Super Essex All-Area team and was voted to the All-County team.

"I am truly excited about the chance to coach a winner like Tahlib, Brown replied." "He has a tremendous skill set, an amazing wing spand for a guard, and he's a freakish athlete." Tahlib will be a critical part of Laker success next season."

North Carolina Prep decides on Lakers

Mattoon, IL - Although Coach Cedric Brown is a die hard Duke fan, he went into the Blue Devil's rival territory for his recruit. Coach Brown and the Lakers have sign 6'2 185 lb shooting guard Justin Vaughan out of Body of Christ Christian Academy in Raleigh, NC. Vaughan averaged 13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and shot 46 percent from long range.

"Justin is a shooting threat. He will keep defenses honest and make them play solid defensive principles, Brown commented." "He has maturity to his game, which makes us a better ball club. He played for a winning coach in Darryl Harris, so I know he will be ready to contribute at this level, Brown replied."

New York ties brings Oberg to Mattoon

Mattoon, IL - Long Island, NY is a 58 minute commute to The Bronx via the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), through the Mecca of basketball, Madison Square Gardens (34th & 7th Ave) to the 1 train, which takes you to the last stop in The Bronx at 242nd street near Manhattan College. All of these ties bring Coach Brown, a Bronx native, and newly signed recruit 6'8 230 pound Power Forward Tighe Oberg to Mattoon, IL for the 2013-2014 season. Oberg comes from Islip HS on Long Island as one of the areas to players. During the 2012-2013 campaign, Tighe averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds per contest. he recorded more than 15 double-doubles and had one triple-double as well.

"Tighe is a New York kid like me, so that is excititng to me. Our program has had tremendous success with New York and east coast players, said Brown." "Tighe is big, he's physical, and he can shoot the ball and stretch the defense. He will be a multi-position player for us next season, which we hope will cause match up problems for our opponents."
