Certificate Programs

Nanny Child Care Provider
This program prepares the student for the care of children in a live-out or live-in family-oriented setting. In addition to developing the skills and knowledge needed to provide for the child's physical, intellectual, emotional and social well-being, the nanny will acquire basic home management skills. Emphasis is also given to interpersonal relationships since the nanny is often considered a member of the family.

Paraprofessional Education - Teacher Aide
This program is designed to provide students with the knowledge base and practical skills necessary for assisting with children and teachers in a public school setting. The certificate option is the first year of the two-year Associate in Applied Science Degree in Paraprofessional Education. Students are encouraged to check with their local school district on specific college education requirements needed in the field of Paraprofessional Education.

Water Plant Operator
The Public Health courses at Lake Land College each lead to an eight hour certificate as a Water Plant Operator (916) or Waste Water Operator (917). The classes are all lecture/laboratory classes with instructor prepared examinations including a final exam.

Associate Degree

Early Childhood Care and Education
The Early Childhood Care and Education program provides the academic background and practical experience necessary to operate a private day care home and teach or direct in child care facilities. Additional employment opportunities include nursery schools, Head Start programs, and teacher's aide in primary grades. The program is especially suited to individuals who enjoy working and teaching young children and to those having a caring and patient personality.

Child & Family Services
The Child and Family Services program provides the academic background and practical experience necessary to fulfill a career working with the child and family sector. The program is especially suited to individuals who enjoy working with young children and the family component and those having a caring and patient personality. In addition, this two year associate degree is transferable to Eastern Illinois University in the area of Family and Consumer Science.

Human Services
The Human Services program is designed to prepare students with skills to work in a variety of settings such as homes for the developmentally disabled, psychosocial programs, special education schools, state agencies, correctional centers, social service areas of hospitals and mental health facilities. Classroom training an field experience prepare graduates of the Human Services program to provide greatly needed services to people who require assistance.

This degree is suited for individuals who desire a career working with children in an educational learning environment. In response to the No Child Left Behind Act , this degree in Paraprofessional Education meets the recommended curriculum outlined by the Illinois State Board of Education.
