Safari Tutorial

The Safari browser comes with OS X on Macintosh computer and has been validated to use with WebCT. For more information about the Safari browser, visit the Apple website.

Cache Settings

To clear the Cache:

  1. Go to Safari > Empty Cache...
  2. A dialog box will appear with a prompt, Are you sure you want to empty the cache? Click Empty. This will clear Safari Cache folder.

Setting Preferences

  1. Go to Safari > Preferences.
  2. The Preferences window will appear. Select Security at the top.
  3. Next to Web Content:, make sure there is a check in the boxes next to Enable plug-ins, Enable Java, Enable Enable JavaScript.
  4. Make sure the box next to Block pop-up windows is not checked. If you prefer to navigate the web with the pop-up blocker on, it can be turned off quickly by going to Safari > Unblock Pop-up Windows. A checkmark will display next to Block Pop-up Windows when pop-up windows are blocked.
  5. Next to Accept Cookies:, make sure the radio button next to Only from sites you navigate to is selected.
  6. Click the Red button to close the window.

Password Settings

  1. Go to Safari > Preferences.
  2. The Preferences window appears.
  3. Select AutoFill from the top.
  4. Click Edit...
  5. Select the password for your WebCT ID and click Remove.

Clearing History

  1. To clear the History, go to the menu bar to History > Clear History.

Adding Bookmarks

  1. Navigate to the webpage you wish to bookmark.
  2. Go to Bookmarks > Add Bookmark...
  3. Type a new name for the bookmark or accept the current one.
  4. Click the pull down menu to select a folder to put the bookmark.

Managing Bookmarks

  1. Show all Bookmarks by going to Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks. On the left side of the Bookmark's window will show all collections you have created and on the right side of the window the selected Collection will display.
  2. To create a new collection, click the Plus sign button at the bottom of the window under collections.
  3. To create a new folder in a collection, click the Plus sign button under collection displayed on the right side of window.
  4. A new unnamed folder will appear. Give the folder a meaningful name.
  5. Move bookmarks by clicking and dragging the icon with the mouse to the Collection or folder you wish to store the bookmark.
