Threaded Topics: This option creates a threaded topic for an online discussion. Students can post and reply to messages. Replies that are associated with the same post are grouped together, creating message threads that can be expanded and collapsed.

Blog Topic: With the blog topic, an instructor will create a collaborative blog (weblog) topic with chronological series of entries on a particular subject. Depending on how the blog is set up by the instructor, students can create entries and/or comments.

Journal Topic: Instructors may use the journal topic for creating a personal writing space for each student or a public place for anonymous postings for students. Instructors can make journals public or private. Depending on how the journal is set up by the instructor, students can create entries and/or comments.
