College’s first faculty interviewed and hired (c. April 1, 1967): 24 full-time faculty members comprised the college’s first ever group of instructors; hiring these instructors was a challenge not only because officials at local public school districts worried LLC would “rob” them of their qualified teachers, but also because there was a fear few qualified candidates existed. Both concerns proved unfounded as the administration went to great lengths to interview as many candidates as possible from diverse backgrounds, and the nearly 200 applicants indicate the college had a large pool to choose from. These faculty members faced a number of daunting tasks at the beginning, including the creation of course outlines, selecting and securing textbooks, and the purchase of necessary equipment.
