The day is Monday, January 9 in the year 1967.

Virgil H. Judge named college’s first president. (January 9, 1967): At age 62, Judge, who was well known locally and at the state level, was superintendent of the Mattoon school district when he was asked to lead the young new junior college (still referred to as the EIAJC). Prior to LLC, Judge had been a teacher, principal, and superintendent; president of various professional organizations, including the Illinois Association of County Superintendent of Schools and the Illinois Association of School Administrators to name a few; and the chairman of the Eastern Illinois Area Special Education group that was originally responsible for bringing a junior college to the area.
