The day is Tuesday, October 26 in the year 1993.Kluthe Center ground-breaking (October 26, 1993): The ground-breaking ceremony of the school’s first permanent extension center was well-received as speeches by Dr. Luther (LLC President), Mike Sullivan (LLC’s BOT Chairman), Jack Thies (Effingham Mayor), and Jim Edgar (Illinois Governor), to name only a few, commemorated an important step in the institution’s growth. The two-story Kluthe Center for Higher Education and Technology was paid for by private donations ($700,000) and state funds (1.4 million dollars); the Center, being built by general contractor Standerfer Construction, would include at least ten classrooms, several distance learning labs, and three computer labs, and was expected to be opened to students in the fall of 1995, with intensive weekend classes beginning Spring 1996.
