Community organizers officially name school (February 2, 1967): At a meeting at the Eastern Illinois Junior College, the board unanimously named the school “Lake Land College.” It was never Lakeland—one word—as is often argued, incidentally. According to Dr. Robert Webb, the school’s second president, a map brought in by board chairman Clem Phipps, which showed the federal water reservoirs, gave everyone the impression that the college “was either underwater or the school was located in Wisconsin.”
