East Classroom Building ground-breaking ceremony (July 30, 1998): Citing overcrowding, continued student enrollment increase, and the need to prepare graduates for jobs in the 21st Century, Dr. Luther, President of LLC, joined by Governor Jim Edgar and other political officials, formally broke ground on the 1st permanent on campus building in over 25 years. The 42,600 square foot building—the largest building on campus at the time—would include a variety of art, nursing, and science classrooms. Funding for the construction project, totaling 7.7 million dollars, came from state (5.3 million dollars) and local (2 million dollars) monies.
