The day is Thursday, January 12 in the year 1989.College introduces new Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program (January 12, 1989): What began as a program that not only identified a new revenue stream for the College, but also met a growing need in Illinois, the ADN program quickly became a popular choice by students. Indeed, the waiting list for acceptance to the program had grown to almost 70 people before a single class had been taught, with state requirements dictating that qualified in-district applicants be accepted before out-of-state ones. The program, coordinated and directed by Marilyn Thompson, possessed more rigorous admission standards than other college curriculums; those original 31 students faced, in fact, a “demanding, and very intensive program,” according to Thompson.
