Partners in Adult Literacy (PAL) program begins (November 15, 1984): By using Illinois State Board of Education funds and participating in a larger national effort to address adult illiteracy, LLC worked with the Mattoon Area Adult Education Center on this new academic initiative. PAL’s two main purposes were to identify literacy volunteers and the adults they would work with, as well as serve as a regional contact for the national campaign.
