Honors program established at LLC (September 7, 1978): The new program, supervised by chemistry instructor Joe Hanley, initially accepted about 20 students. Creation of the program was meant to improve the chances of admission to a four-year school or employment opportunities for students. The college set aside scholarship opportunities for future honors students who were in the top ten percent of their graduating class or earned a certain score on the ACT test as well.
