Lake Land College honors TRiO students at Recognition Banquet

May 27, 2014

Lake Land College recently recognized and honored students in the TRiO Student Support Services program at its annual Recognition Banquet.

At the banquet, TRiO students graduating with an associate degree were honored in addition to TRiO students with outstanding cumulative and semester GPAs. TRiO student ambassadors were also recognized.

Under the direction of Marko Mohlenhoff, TRiO Student Support Services is a federally funded outreach program at the college that serves and assists low-income individuals, first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline.

“Being a TRiO student means having resources that other students do not,” said Josh Bullock, Lake Land College president. “By choosing education you are making the right choice.”

Students graduating from the college this semester with an associate degree who participated in the TRiO program include: Brandon Amos, Charleston; Heather Began, Altamont; Rachel Buckley, Chalreston; Georgeanna Callow, Mattoon; Ryan Camp, Kansas; Aaron Crawford, Raymond; Christopher Eheart, Greenup; Valerie Greuel, Mattoon; Olivia Kuhl, Dieterich; Dustin Mason, Charleston; Tisha Niebrugge, Effingham; Megan O’Brien, Charleston; Kenneth Phillips, Mattoon; Jeffrey Robison, Charleston; Blake Shuemaker, Windsor; Emmanuel Smith, Mattoon; Brian Stout, Casey; Gary Trepanier, Mattoon; Derek Warren, Edgewood; and Taleasha Williams, Murphysboro.

TRiO student ambassadors recognized at the banquet were: Hollie Austin, Brocton; Heather Began, Altamont; Georgeanna Callow, Mattoon; Chelsy Lorance, Lerna; and Brenda Scott, Greenup.

“We’re very proud of all of our students in the TRiO program,” said Mohlenhoff. “I would also like to acknowledge the TRiO staff who helps make the program so successful at Lake Land.”

TRiO staff includes: Victoria Zeter, advising counselor; Amory Porter, learning skills specialist; and Braddi Reed, administrative assistant.
