Lake Land College offers free Ag Institute I, II and III for K-12 educators

Lake Land College will offer three sessions of the Ag Institute this summer. Ag Institutes are designed for K-12 educators to learn the amazing impact agriculture has on our daily lives. By touring Ag businesses and farms, by meeting with industry professionals, and by engaging in hands-on activities, participants will gain first-hand knowledge they can share with their students as well as lesson plans relating to State of Illinois teaching standards.  Lake Land College Agriculture instructors Jon Althaus, Ryan Orrick and Dyke Barkley will teach and organize the Ag Institute tours and stops.
 
Ag Institute I is a three-day adventure that will run from June 9-11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For this course, participants will learn about the impact agriculture has on our daily lives. By touring area agricultural businesses and farms, meeting industry professionals and engaging in hands-on activities, participants will gain first-hand knowledge that can be shared with their students. There is no cost to attend Ag Institute I.   
 
Ag Institute II will go deeper into the agriculture experience, updating participants on the latest technologies used in the field.  The processes of sustainability, alternative agriculture, bio-technology and current research in agriculture will be discussed.  This section meets June 16-18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and there is no cost to attend.
 
Ag Institute III will be held from June 24 – 25 and participants will travel to St. Louis,
For a two-day intensive institute that introduces participants to urban. From Purina Mills to St. Louis Botanical Gardens to Monsanto Research Facility, agriculture in the St. Louis area is fast paced and constantly moving forward. Materials, transportation, lunch and entrance fees are provided. Participants must cover the cost of the hotel and evening meals. Blocked rooms are being held until May 28 at the Drury Inn in Collinsville, Ill. To reserve a room, call 1-800-325-0720 and ask to be booked under the Lake Land College block. Cost of a double room is $99.99 or $109.95 for a king room, plus tax.  
 
Both Ag Institute I and II will be held on the Lake Land College campus in West Building, room 136.  Participants can sign up for one, both or all three sessions.
