Lake Land College hosts automotive job fair
April 21, 2014
The Lake Land College Perkins Program in coordination with the Automotive Technology Department recently held an Automotive Job Fair in order to connect students with area job opportunities.
Eight local business attended the event including: Effingham Auto & Tire, Effingham; Pilson Auto Center, Mattoon; Johnson Automotive Services Inc., Charleston; the Y-yard, Effingham; Neal Tire, Mattoon; BEI Automotive Repair, Casey; CIT Group Inc., Champaign; and KC Summers, Mattoon.
“Today was a wonderful opportunity to meet students who share a similar passion and could lead to potential future placement with our company,” said Kelly Roepke, with the Y-yard in Effingham.
According to Diana Glosser, director of the Perkins Program, it’s very crucial for students to make professional connections, especially as graduation nears.
“This is a great way for students to learn what employers are out there and who is hiring and we appreciate the partnership with local businesses and the time they donated to this activity,” said Glosser. “It gives them a chance to also practice networking and job search skills, which are critical to landing a job.”
