Lake Land College’s Daugherty awarded EIBEA Teacher of the Year Award

April 11, 2014

Kathleen Daugherty, instructor and coordinator of the Office Technology and Medical Coding Programs at Lake Land College has been selected at the as the winner of the 2014 Eastern Illinois Business Education Association (EIBEA) Teacher of the Year Award.

The EIBEA Teacher of the Year Award is given during the spring meeting to an outstanding business teacher in the EIBEA region. The EIBEA is made up of business teachers from the eastern region of the state of Illinois and is an affiliate of the Illinois Business Education Association. The purpose of the organization is to promote business education and to share instructional resources and teaching techniques with other business educators.

According to her award nomination letter, Daugherty goes out of her way to help her students on a daily basis.

“Often times the students are not even in her class, but she helps them anyway,” said Marcy Satterwhite, fellow business instructor at Lake Land and nominator.  “Kathleen truly exhibits what it means to be an outstanding educator because she cares about students and wants them to learn and be successful.”

According to Satterwhite, Daugherty seems to have unlimited patience with her students and spends a great deal of time working with them individually.  In the classroom she is always positive and enthusiastic and relates well to her students.  Outside of the classroom, Daugherty volunteers for many departmental duties when volunteers are needed and she is always positive and friendly with fellow division members.

Daugherty has served as the EIBEA vice president for the past two years and acts as EIBEA representative to the IBEA board, where she represents her regional organization.
