Lake Land College to host Monster’s Inc. University workshop for children
April 8, 2014
Monsters, Inc. University will be a scream with the Future Educators of America at Lake Land College!
On Saturday, April 26, the Future Educators of America (FEA) is hosting Monster’s Inc. University and SCARE GAMES. During this day camp, children in preschool through sixth grade will go on a monster’s scavenger hunt, play scare games and watch Monsters Inc. the movie.
“The FEA officers collaborated and came up with the theme for this special event,” said Tanille Ulm, education instructor and club advisor for FEA. “Our club members desire to be actively involved working with children in our community. The more hands-on experience for them as future educators, the better.”
According to Ulm, this event will allow Lake Land education majors to create and lead the activities, leading the children, rather than just assisting other teachers. Ulm said that this is a great opportunity for her students to work with children from a broad range of ages, which will allow them to see what age groups they work best with.
All interested children must be potty trained and the cost to attend the workshop is $5, which covers lunch and the day’s craft activity.
The camp will be held from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in Webb Hall on campus, 5001 Lakeland Blvd., Mattoon.
Also, all participants are encouraged to bring plastic bottle caps, which will later be donated to the Armstrong Center in Mattoon for a project to use 800 pounds of recycled caps to form a picnic table. Participants who bring bottle caps to donate will be entered into a drawing for prizes.
Registration is limited to 50 children. To register for this event, contact Ulm at firstname.lastname@example.org. Include the child’s name, age, grade school level, parent contact information and any known allergies.
