Lake Land College hosts interactive world music event

March 31, 2014

The Lake Land College Student Activity Board in coordination with the Inclusion and Diversity Education Task Force is hosting a special performance, Drumming Up World Music: Rhythms, Songs and Drums of West Africa, the Caribbean and the USA on Wed., April 23 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Lake Land College Theater.

This event is free and open to the public and participants will have the opportunity to interact with the performers, being invited on stage to play instruments and learn through hands-on exploration. Bands from Mattoon schools will be in attendance and other arts and humanities courses from area schools are encouraged to attend.

“Participants will take an interactive tour around the world to learn about the rhythms, songs, and drums of West Africa, the Caribbean and the USA,” said Paula Rosine, chair of the Inclusion Diversity Education Task Force. “This multi-cultural performance is full of a lot of fun. I’m certain there will be clapping, singing and maybe even a little dancing. Audience members will be immersed in an exciting and educational program that highlights the diversity and richness of music from around the world!”
This program is made possible in part by a grant from the Ruth and Vaughn Jaenike Access to the Arts Outreach Program of the College of Arts and Humanities at Eastern Illinois University.
