Lake Land College’s TRiO Student Support Services accepting new students

March 28, 2014

Enrolling in college can be tough decision, especially if it’s your first time taking college-level courses. But, Lake Land College is committed to student success and through TRiO Student Support Services, students can get the help they need to reach their goals. Currently, TRiO Student Support Services is accepting applications for new and continuing Lake Land students.

TRiO Student Support Services is a program with the sole purpose of helping students in need succeed at Lake Land College. TRiO is funded by the U.S. Department of Education to help students complete their academic goals and graduate from Lake Land College or transfer to a university.

The program, along with its counselors and advisors work with each student individually, providing and connecting students with a wide variety of support services. Specifically, TRiO can provide personal and/or academic counseling, academic assistance, financial aid advising and assistance, career and job search assistance, basic skills enhancement, skills workshops, social and cultural enrichment opportunities, and transfer opportunities.

All of TRiO services are free to eligible students admitted to the program. Students who are eligible for TRiO Student Support Services must be pursuing an associate degree and meet at least one of the following requirements:
•    Be a first-generation college student, which means neither parent or legal guardian graduated from a four-year institution; or
•    Meet certain income requirements, like being eligible for a Pell grant; or
•    Be a student who is eligible for Student Accommodations at Lake Land College.

Lake Land’s SSS Project will provide additional services that include mentoring, career counseling, personal counseling and cultural programming. TRiO is funded by the Department of Education.
