Lake Land College receives grant for updated technology in dental clinic
The Lake Land College Board of Trustees approved a grant awarded to the college by the Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation Community Grants Program in the amount of $10,000.
This is the second award the college has received from the Foundation, whose mission is to improve the oral health of residents in Illinois with an emphasis on programs for children.
Funds from the award will allow for the purchase of a digital panoramic unit for the Dental Hygiene Clinic at the college. The clinic currently uses an analog panoramic unit, and the digital unit will better train students on relevant field technologies. It will also allow those studying dental hygiene to more safely and efficiently serve patients as digital panoramic units allow for more comfortable imaging for patients who have difficulty with regular imaging procedures, especially children.
The Dental Hygiene Program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a career as a registered dental hygienist. The program provides experience in a clinical setting on-site that is open to the public. The clinic offers students a wide variety of patient treatments and experiences. Skills that focus on patient education, prevention of oral diseases and dental hygiene treatment are emphasized.
Treatments and services offered by the Lake Land College Dental Hygiene Clinic include: extra/intra oral assessment, dental charting, oral health assessment, calculus charting, X-Rays, preventative home care instruction, periodontal debridement, fluoride treatment, tobacco cessation and nutritional counseling.
