Lake Land College hosts Donor Recognition Dinner

The Lake Land College Foundation recently recognized 15 donors who reached designated levels of lifetime giving at the annual Donor Recognition Dinner.

“Donors, you are the core of the Foundation and Lake Land College,” said Dave Cox, director of foundation and alumni. “It is your selfless generosity that has provided the funds needed for the college to offer exemplary educational opportunities and for our students to obtain a college education.”

Over $1.2 million in cash, grants and planned gifts were received by the foundation in the past year. This is the second year in a row that the Lake Land College Foundation received more than $1 million, which is the first in the foundation’s history. Since 1990, the foundation has granted 8,000 scholarships totaling more than $5 million.

Recognized at the President’s Gold Club Level was the Leona Vollintine Trust of Springfield.

Recognized at the President’s Club Level were Leslie Hill, Mattoon; Max and Louanna Jaeger, Mattoon; and the Lerna Lions Club.

Those recognized at the Benefactor Level were the Gerald and Marge Fedrigon Estate of Alpharetta, Ga.; an anonymous donor from Charleston; and Lake Land College Student Services, represented by Vice President for Student Services Tina Stovall.

Those recognized at the Founders Level were Jim and Sandy Shaffer, Shelbyville, Paul and Kathy Glenney, Mattoon; Jack and Jennifer Jansen, Effingham; National Bank of Hillsboro; Jennifer Nay, Ashmore; Myles and Tamara Overton, Mattoon; Chapter KQ/MF P.E.O. Sisterhood Continuing Education; and Dave and Debby Storm, Effingham.

According to Lake Land College President Josh Bullock, the foundation and its donors are an invaluable asset to the college because students face increasing financial barriers and there are narrowing financial aid opportunities.

“Most of our students commute to class, and with a district spanning over 3,000 square miles, that can grow to be a financial burden to many students,” said Bullock. “The selfless gifts provided by the donors allow students access to building brighter futures and stronger communities through education. For that, I want to extend my sincere gratitude.”
