Melody Wittenmyer receives Lake Land College’s Cindy Ann Dickerson Memorial

When Cindy Ann Dickerson, a lifelong and much loved Martinsville resident, passed away in a car accident in 1986, her family members wanted to do something that would be a remembrance of their loved one.

Therefore, Dickerson’s parents, Walter and Jeannette, established the Cindy Ann Dickerson Memorial through the Lake Land College Foundation, which would provide each recipient with an opportunity for lasting personal and educational growth.

The 2013 recipient is Melody Wittenmyer of Martinsville, who is attending Lake Land this fall. She is the 14th student to receive an award through the Dickerson’s generosity since the memorial scholarship was created in 1999.

“We are both proud and honored to be able to assist the Dickerson family with this memorial to their daughter Cindy and we thank them for their commitment to Martinsville students who will be attending Lake Land College. We are pleased to have Melody on campus with us,” said Dave Cox, director of foundation and alumni.

The Lake Land College Foundation was established exclusively for educational, scientific and charitable purposes among alumni, friends and employees of the college. Gifts to the foundation provide opportunities for students to pursue higher educational goals.

Lake Land College Foundation scholarship applications are available at the Lake Land Foundation office or area high school counseling offices.  Scholarship applications are also available on the LLC web site at www.lakeland.cc.il.us/foundation.

To be considered for scholarship awards, applications must be completed and received by the foundation office by the listed deadlines. Applicants will be considered for all foundation scholarships for which they qualify. Applications received after the listed deadline will be considered as scholarships become available, funding permits and individual needs are determined.

For more information, or to establish a scholarship through the Lake Land College Foundation, please call Cox at 217-234-5376 or visit www.lakeland.cc.il.us/foundation.
