Lake Land College offers basic nursing classes with tuition waiver through Adult Ed program
The Adult Education Center at Lake Land College is offering basic nursing assisting (BNA) courses to qualifying students, beginning Aug. 22 and running for the fall semester. Classes will meet Monday through Thursday each week and students who qualify for the program will have tuition waived.
The courses are offered through the Accelerating Opportunities Initiative, a unique program specifically designed for adult learners. Through the Accelerating Opportunities Initiative, students will learn about career skills and college preparation, have an opportunity to complete a GED, and receive one-on-one help for reaching career and academic goals.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for people looking to break into the growing healthcare industry,” said Aaron Hacker, adult education advisor. “Normally BNA programs cost students anywhere from $800-$1,000 otherwise.”
The program, which will be held at the Adult Education Center, 1617 Lake Land Blvd., Mattoon, is a 16-week-long program designed to train students to become entry-level care givers in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals and nursing homes.
Interested students should apply in person at the Adult Education Center before Friday, Aug. 16. Additionally, students must complete a basic skills test and submit information for a background check to qualify for the program. Tuition and book fees will be waived, but some additional fees may apply.
