Employees at Lake Land College enhance personal health through wellness program
Lake Land College was recently honored as one of the Healthiest Companies in America by Interactive Health Solutions, a health and wellness agency that works with organizations to develop health risk assessments and solutions. The award was presented at the June Board of Trustees meeting.
“We’ve worked closely with Interactive Health Solutions in order to create a wellness program that is the most effective for our employees,” said Andrea Imes, benefits coordinator for Lake Land.
Through the voluntary program, Lake Land employees receive health assessments, which identify health risks, and work with healthcare professionals to create an individualized health and wellness plan.
To be named as one of the Healthiest Companies in America for 2011-2012, companies were required to show high employee participation and improved employee health indicators including lower blood pressure and glucose levels, smoking cessation and overall achievement of personal health goals.
The overall results for employees at Lake Land College are as follows:
• 86 percent of employees improved blood pressure;
• 69 percent improved LDL cholesterol levels;
• 57 percent improved glucose levels;
• 61 percent improved triglyceride numbers; and
• 13 percent quit using tobacco.
There were 72 companies across the United States that were awarded the title of Healthiest Company in America for the 2011-2012 year.
