Lake Land College Foundation announces judge for annual photo showFor the Lake Land College Foundation’s 34th Annual Photography Show, Lisa and Nathaniel West of West Photography, Mattoon, will be this year’s judges. Sponsored by the General Electric Mattoon Lamp Plant, the Annual Photography Show will feature professional, amateur and student photographers. “I’m very excited to have the Wests judge this year’s show,” said Dave Cox, director of the Foundation and Alumni. “They are a talented photography duo and well known throughout east central Illinois.” The Wests have owned and operated West Photography in Mattoon since 2007, focusing primarily on wedding photojournalism throughout Illinois and other states. The Wests have sought to produce photos that are beautiful and artistic, but most importantly, they want their pictures to reflect the personalities of their subjects authentically. Nathaniel is a veteran journalist and photojournalist, and the newspapers for which he has worked include the Journal Gazette and Times-Courier in Coles County. Lisa is not only a photographer but also chief graphic artist for West Photography. “Photos that are technically proficient but also tell a complete story are the ones that most stand out to me,” said Nathaniel West. “The best photos are those that when you look at them, you know exactly what’s going on with no description or explanation needed.” To enter work in this year’s show, photographs must be delivered to the Virgil H. Judge Learning Resource Center on the Lake Land College campus either on Tuesday, Feb. 19 between noon and 5 p.m. or Wednesday, Feb. 20 between 3 – 6 p.m. A $5 fee for each entry is being charged to help defray the cost of insuring photographs while they are on display. The entry fee is due at the time you submit your entry form. Entry forms must be submitted by Friday, Feb. 15. Photographers entering the show will compete for prizes in five categories. The categories are as follows:
Category 1: Any subject, film or digital, with the photo taken by the photographer
Category 2: Any subject, film or digital, utilizing black and white photography
Category 3: Any photograph following a theme of “The Wonder of Weather,” taken by the photographer.
Category 4: Digital manipulation photography (e.g. manipulated electronically, scanned, cropping, color density, contrast, etc.)
Category 5: Student entries open to grades 7-12 only
Awards for categories one through three will be $100 to both professional and amateur winners. Category four will be awarded a single prize of $100 and student category five will be awarded a prize of $50.
