Lake Land College’s Student Services Foundation Scholarship Committee announces scholarship recipientsThe Lake Land College Foundation recently awarded $3,000 in scholarships on behalf of the Student Services Foundation Scholarship Committee and the Laura Brandenburg Memorial Scholarship. This year, six students were awarded $500 each. Five students received scholarships from the Student Services Foundation Scholarship fund and the other student was awarded with a scholarship from the Laura Brandenburg Memorial Scholarship. All funding awarded to students was raised by the Student Services Foundation Scholarship Committee. Students who received the Student Services Foundation Scholarship were: Judy Brown, Toledo; Dalton Ellison, Neoga; Dalton Roberts, Toledo; Natasha Weber, Mattoon; and Kourtney Will, Toledo. The Laura Brandenburg Memorial Scholarship recipient was Richard Swinford, Paris. The Student Services Foundation Scholarship Committee formed in 2002 and awarded the first scholarship in 2003. As of December 2012, the committee provided assistance to 61 students, totaling $30,400, which includes $5,000 from Laura Brandenburg’s Memorial Scholarship fund. Scholarship recipients must be in good academic standing and seeking a degree or certificate. Other considerations include G.P.A., financial aid status, other scholarship awards, community and academic activities and employment. “The goal of the Student Services Foundation Scholarship Committee is to help the students who are trying to help themselves, but are still struggling,” said Lisa Leisch, committee member and administrative assistant to counseling services at the college. Volunteers within the Student Services wing at Lake Land College make up the Student Services Scholarship Committee and have created several ways for people to donate to their cause. Fundraising for the scholarships this year has been done through bake sales, themed basket ticket sales, and Combined Charities payroll deductions through the Lake Land College Foundation Office. Committee members include: Jackie Huddlestun, administrative assistant to the vice president of student services; Terri Fields, academic counselor; Sharon Uphoff, college nurse; Seirra Laughhunn, administrative assistant to career services; Katherine Knearem, student services specialist; Marlene Meek, administrative assistant to student life; Andrea Bright, student services specialist; Paula Smith, coordinator of enrollment services; Belinda Dotson, Trio administrative assistant; Amanda Rice, student services professional; Valerie Lynch, director of student life; Jordan Hicks, academic counselor and coordinator disability services; Jennifer Melton, director of international studies programs; Nikki Lamb, student assistance specialist; and Lisa Leisch, administrative assistant to counseling services. The Lake Land College Foundation was established exclusively for educational, scientific and charitable purposes. The Foundation assists the college in developing and enhancing the educational opportunities and service to its students, alumni and citizens of the district. The thrust of the Foundation is to provide student scholarships through funds contributed by individuals, agencies and corporations.
