Lake Land College named the 12th fastest growing community college in the country
Community College Week has recently named Lake Land College the 12th fastest growing community college in the United States for institutions with enrollment between 5,000-9,999 students.
“In the last couple of years, the college has amped up its alternative educational offerings like short-term training and grant funded programs which allows us to meet the needs of more and more students,” said Scott Lensink, president of the college.
According to data collected by the U.S. Department of Education, Lake Land saw an increase of enrollment of nearly eight percent between fall 2010 and fall 2011.
“We are happy that our enrollment is continuously growing considering many other community colleges are not experiencing growth at this time,” said Lensink.
According to the report by Community College Week, many colleges have seen exponential enrollment growth over the last five years due to an economy reshaped by the recession. As people lost jobs or struggled to enter the job market, many turned to community colleges to expand their skillset or re-train for a different career.
