January 27, 2014
Lake Land College will offer a 16-hour concealed carry course at the Mattoon Police Department Firing Range, 2849 Lake Road, Mattoon. The course follows the state’s official concealed carry curriculum and completers of the course will be qualified to apply for a concealed carry license through the state of Illinois.
The class will be offered in a condensed format and will begin in mid- to late-February. There are options for this course based on a person’s experience. There is a 16-hour course for community members who have no previous firearms training and an eight-hour course for community members who have approved previous firearms training.
“All of our instructors are law enforcement officers who have trained professionals in how to use firearms in the line of duty,” said Dustin Heuerman, concealed carry course coordinator.
Heuerman said he also welcomes people who have firearms in their homes and would benefit from the training.
Those who complete the 16-hour course will earn one hour of college credit. Cost for the 16-hour class is $185 and the cost for the eight-hour course is $103.90. After completing the course, students can submit the $150 application fee to the state of Illinois for the license.
Students who register for this class must drop the class the day before the first instructional to avoid incurring a charged for the class.
