Lake Land College students place at Broadcasters Association Silver Dome Awards

This year, several Lake Land College radio and television broadcast students brought home awards from the annual Illinois Broadcasters Association Silver Dome Awards held recently at Illinois State University.

Travis Haskett, Neoga; Jared Lindley, Marshall; and Logan Pullen, Mattoon  won third place for Best Radio Station Promotion with their piece “WLKL Knockout Champ.” Christian Bollinger, Cowden brought home third place for Best Radio Longform Programming with his work “Crazy Enough To Kill.” WLKL 89.9 The Max Alternative won second place for Best Station Community Service Project, the WLKL Food Drive.

According to Greg Powers, broadcasting instructor and WLKL station manager, the awards were held in conjunction with the student IBA-U conference held in Bloomington. The conference is a one-day event that features workshops and panel discussions designed to expose the college broadcasting student to the world of radio and television.

“We are thrilled with the outstanding work the students in our radio and television program produce, and their hard work and dedication has certainly paid off,” said Powers. “This is a great achievement for our students who mainly competed against four-year universities. Lake Land broadcasting students once again represented the only two-year public institution to place in the awards.”
