Lake Land College reschedules Illinois Humanities Council Road Scholar event

Due to extreme weather conditions that caused the college to close Monday, March 25, Lake Land College has rescheduled a performance by world renowned percussionist and performer Rocky Maffit.

Maffit will present “A Life of Rhythm” on Monday, April 22 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Lake Land College Theater on campus in Mattoon.

As part of the Illinois Humanities Council Road Scholars Speakers Bureau, Maffit will draw on body percussion, voice and an amazing variety of world percussion instruments to draw out the “inner drummer” that lives in us all. The performance blends cultural history, world geography, percussion, song and fun to absorb and engage the audience in a world of rhythm and beauty.

The show employs a large amount of audience participation and is child friendly. This free program, which is open to the public, is made possible in part by an award from the Illinois Humanities Council.

For more information about the performer, visit http://www.rockymaffit.com. For more information about the performance at the college, contact Vivian Bales at vbales@lakeland.cc.il.us or 217-234-5087.
