Lake Land College, KC Summers invite community to meet Energy Innovation Conference’s keynote speaker
New to this year’s annual Energy Innovation Conference at Lake Land College is the opportunity for community members to meet the conference’s keynote speaker at a special Meet and Greet Reception, held Tuesday, March 5 from 5 – 7 p.m. at KC Summers, 117 S. 19th St., Mattoon. Get a chance to meet this year’s keynote speaker, Bob Dixson, mayor of Greensburg, Kan. Dixson took office as mayor of Greensburg in 2008 and he is leading the way in the process of rebuilding the community after a 2007 tornado demolished the town. Sustainable building, renewable energy and "green" technologies are the cornerstones of the recovery of Greensburg. “The Meet and Greet Reception is a great opportunity for area community members to attend,” said David Turnbull, Energy Innovation Conference Committee chair person. “It gives folks who might not be able to attend the day-long conference a chance to learn about sustainable living, and it also will allow people who are specifically interested in knowing more about green building practices on a municipal level the time to ask questions and become acquainted with Mr. Dixson.” The Meet and Greet Reception will kick off the annual Energy Innovation Conference, which will be held the following day, Wednesday, March 6. The conference will host various breakout sessions related to sustainable energy practices including geothermal heating, solar and wind energy, technician and job training, sustainable industry information and projections, bio-mass, sustainability and green businesses. This year’s conference will once again include sessions that focus on non-energy related sustainable practices such as gardening, landscaping and paperless marketing.
