Lake Land College honors Trio students at Recognition Banquet
Lake Land College recently recognized and honored students in the Trio Student Support Services program at its annual Recognition Banquet.
At the banquet, Trio students graduating with an associate degree were honored in addition to Trio students with outstanding cumulative and semester GPAs. Trio student ambassadors were also recognized.
Under the direction of Marko Mohlenhoff, Trio Student Support Services is a federally funded outreach program at the college that serves and assists low-income individuals, first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline.
“Education is the great equalizer and opens doors to those who don’t have any,” said Scott Lensink, president of the college. “That’s why programs like Trio are essential for those students who might need a little extra help navigating the educational system.”
Students graduating from the college this semester with an associate degree who participated in the Trio program include: Alisha Banion, Charleston; Jared Erickson, Effingham; Lindsey Garcia, Ashmore; Alicia Myers, Charleston; and Maria Skidmore, Mattoon.
Trio student ambassadors recognized at the banquet were: Michelle Humel, Casey; Shayla Lawhorn, Toledo; Kimberly Readnour, Westervelt; and Crystal Stout, Casey.
“We’re very proud of all of our students in the Trio program,” said Mohlenhoff. “I would also like to acknowledge the Trio staff who helps make the program so successful at Lake Land.”
Trio staff includes: Victoria Zeter, advising counselor; Bill Jackson, learning skills specialist; and Belinda Dotson, administrative assistant.
