Lake Land College alumni invited to participate in Energy Innovation Conference Film Short Contest

For this year’s Energy Innovation Conference at Lake Land College, the annual Film Short Contest is now open to both current Lake Land students and alumni.

For the five-minute-long film, entries must be original work by the filmmaker and focus on an environmental or energy related issue. Deadline for submission is Friday, Feb. 13, 2013 by 5 p.m. 

Prizes for the Film Short Contest are as follows: first place winner, $500; second place winner, $300; and third place winner $200. Voting for the film short contest will run from Feb. 18-March 4 on the Energy Innovation Conference Web site. Please note that an alumnus of Lake Land College is any student who has taken a for-credit class at the college. Graduation is not required. 

This year’s Energy Innovation Conference is scheduled for Wednesday, March 6, 2013. This event is free and open to the public, and it will host various breakout sessions related to sustainable energy practices. Conference topics are designed to introduce consumers to sustainable practices in addition to meeting the interests of contractors, educators, business owners, facility managers and farmers. 

The keynote speaker for the upcoming conference is Bob Dixson, mayor of Greensburg, Kan. Dixson took office as Mayor of Greensburg in 2008 and he is leading the way in the process of rebuilding the community after a 2007 tornado demolished the town. Sustainable building, renewable energy and "green" technologies are the cornerstones of the recovery of Greensburg.
