How do I register for online courses?
Students registering for online courses can follow these steps to register:
Please note the following information about the application process
Placement Testing: Students who apply for admission to a Lake Land College certificate or degree program or who wish to register for an English (ENG) or math (MAT) course must meet placement requirements prior to registration.
Access to IRIS: An application must be processed before a student can access IRIS. Please note that the application process for creating an IRIS ID may take 24 to 48 hours. When completed, you can access IRIS on the LLC Hub.
Readmit Students: Students who have previously applied to the college, but have not taken courses the previous semester (excluding summer) must reapply before they can access IRIS. Apply online.
How do I withdraw from an online course for which I am officially registered?
In order to drop or withdraw from a course, students must either use IRIS (Internet Registration and Information System), submit a completed Change of Schedule form to the Admissions and Records Office or at the Kluthe Center, or call the Admissions and Records Office at (217)234-5434. It is the student's responsibility to drop courses according to policy and to secure proper documentation. Note: Students should be aware that there are different deadline dates for dropping a course to receive a refund or to withdraw from a course. See the Important Dates page.
How will I get the textbooks for an online course?
Students taking internet courses must pick up rented textbooks/CDs through the Textbook Library Service, located in the Lake Land College Bookstore on the main campus. Students unable to pick up and return their textbooks/CDs on campus should make arrangements to purchase these items through the Lake Land College Bookstore (phone 217-234-5420) or from other sources.
Will I need to be a computer expert to take an online class?
It is not necessary to be a computer expert to take an online class; however, you should feel comfortable using word processing and web browser programs, downloading files, and sending and receiving email.
What are the computer requirements for taking an online class?
What is Instructure Canvas?
Instructure Canvas is a web-based program that gives you access to your course and the instructor and other students in the course. The instructor will organize course materials and activities in Canvas which allows you to participate in the course using the tools in Canvas. Please note each course will be different and your instructor may not use of all of the tools available in Canvas. Tutorial sessions are offered at the beginning of each semester and online tutorials are available. Check dates and times for the face to face sessions here.
Do online classes require campus visits?
Some courses require campus visits for proctored tests and/or labs. Please review the requirements on the instructor's welcome letter. Proctored tests require an appointment. Please review the Proctoring Schedule.
