Programs of Study
Certificate
Accounting
The
certificate in Accounting program prepares students to provide
technical administrative support to professional accountants
and other financial management personnel. All courses satisfactorily
completed in this certificate program will apply to the Associate
in Applied Science degree with a major in Accounting.
Cosmetology 
The
Cosmetology program meets the Illinois Department of Professional
Regulation standard requirements pertaining to faculty qualifications,
equipment, facilities, course content and contact hours. Entrance
into the program is accepted Fall and Spring Semesters following a screening process. A
total of 1,500 consecutive hours is required for completion
of the program. In addition to tuition and service fees, cosmetology
students will purchase: lab jacket, lab vest, manikins, cosmetology kits, nail kits, and workbooks. Students will have the opportunity to attend off-campus cosmetology
seminars and shows. To secure a state license, each student
is required to take a written Illinois state board examination upon
completion of the curriculum.

Cosmetology-Nail
Technology
The Nail Technician
program is designed to prepare individuals in all areas of
nail technology. Professionalism with clients, nail
structure, hand and foot anatomy, manicure, pedicure, massage,
bacteriology and sanitation are included in the curriculum.
A variety of nail techniques provide the core of the certificate: nail art, sculptured nails, nail tips, gel nails, fill-ins,
overlays, wraps, repairs and nail removal.

Cosmetology
Teacher
Cosmetology Teacher I, II and III
develops the teaching techniques for the instruction of cosmetology
skills. The study
of basic theory and principles of cosmetology instruction
and business procedures related to cosmetology school management
are examined. The student will complete requirements for state
board examination and licensing in the State of Illinois.
Esthetics
This program is designed to prepare students in all areas of esthetics. Skin treatments, procedures, product knowledge, machine usage and a variety of spa services provide the core of the curriculum. Professionalism, sanitation and infection control, anatomy and physiology, chemistry, electricity and spa business are also included. Students will purchase a lab jacket, esthetics kit and a workbook. Following successful completion of the program, students will take the Illinois state board exam for Estheticians.
Computer Applications Specialist
This certificate provides the student
with the theory and the practical applications of microcomputers
relating to both business areas and personal uses. Hands-on
training is emphasized. Students seeking this certificate
may do so for entry level skills needed to work with existing
software or for personal applications.
Information Technology - Computer Applications
The certificate in Computer Applications lays the foundation for entry level work as a help desk assistant or computer user. The course work is spread among the various Information Technology concentrations and allows for future completion of any of the IT degrees without complications.
Information Technology - Programming
The certificate in Programming lays the foundation for entry level work as a computer operator or computer programmer. The course work is spread among the various Information Technology concentrations and allows for future completion of any of the IT degrees without complications. The certificate is excellent for supplementing another associate degree.
Information Technology - Network Administration
The certificate program in Network Administration prepares the student for a computer operations or network administration environment through an intensive course of study. The core of the certificate is a series of network hardware and software courses supplemented by programming and general business courses. The certificate is designed for those looking for rapid and intensive training or those who are seeking a degree as a part-time student.
Information Technology - Web Technology
The certificate in Web Technology lays the foundation for entry level work as a web page developer. The course work emphasizes software applications and web page design instruction and allows for future completion of the Web Technology IT degree without complications.
Desktop
Publishing Graphic Design
This certificate
provides skills and knowledge to prepare students for entry-level
positions in desktop publishing and web page design.
With a knowledge of keyboarding, graphic arts software, and
web page design, graduates may fill various positions in the
desktop publishing, web page design, and graphic design fields.
This certificate can be completed successfully during the
day or evening
E-Commerce Marketing
The certificate in E-Commerce Marketing trains students to effectively market an organization and its products through its Website. The program will highlight strategies for drawing more traffic to a firm’s Website, increasing online revenues, and enhancing the organization’s reputation. All courses satisfactorily completed in this certificate program will apply to the associate in applied science degree with a major in Marketing.
Entrepreneurship
This program helps to prepare individuals
for ownership of their own business. Courses have been carefully
chosen to give the student the solid informational base to
better succeed in business ownership. All courses satisfactorily
completed in this certificate program will apply to the Associate
in Applied Science degree with a major in Management.
Management
The
certificate in Management program prepares students for entry
level positions in supervision and management. Employees can
use this program to prepare for upward mobility and/or update
management and supervisory skills. All courses satisfactorily
completed in this certificate program will apply to the Associate
in Applied Science degree with a major in Management.
Marketing
The certificate in Marketing program prepares students for entry level positions in account management, sales, retailing, and marketing. Current employees can use this program to prepare for upward mobility and/or update marketing skills. All courses satisfactorily completed in this certificate program will apply to the associate in applied science degree with a major in Marketing.
Medical
Transcriptionist
The Medical Transcriptionist
Certificate Program prepares students in the skills needed
for work in a medical clinic, hospital, or physician's office
as a transcriptionist of medical dictation.
Medical Coding Specialist Online Certificate
Medical Coding Special Certificate -- CRT.MCS presents a comprehensive study of both diagnostic and procedural medical coding using nationally recognized ICD9CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding. It prepares the student for employment as a coding specialist in hospitals, clinics, surgery centers, long-term and home health care facilities. Coding specialists are also employed by consulting firms, coding and billing services, insurance companies, and governmental agencies. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to pass coding exams available through national organizations such as the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
Office
Assistant - Receptionist
The Office
Assistant/Receptionist certificate program, an intensive one-year
program, is designed to provide the necessary training for
the student who intends to secure employment as a clerk-typist,
file clerk, receptionist or a beginning or re-entry office
employee in business and industry.
Office
Technology Skills-General
This
short-term certificate can be tailored to fit the needs of
a student with no previous office experience or a student
who wants to upgrade skills. Students can choose from
several courses to enhance or complement previous experience
and/or training. Emphasis is placed on current office
technology needs and effective job-search techniques.
Most of the courses meet requirements for other Office Technology
degrees and certificates. All courses can be completed
successfully during the day or evening college.
Office
Technology Skills-MOS Certification
This
short-term certificate is tailored to fit the needs of a student
with no previous office experience or a student who wants
to upgrade skills and apply for certification of skills in
the use of Microsoft Office business applications. Emphasis
is placed not only on current office technology needs but
also on effective job-search techniques. Many of the
courses meet requirements for other Office Technology degrees
and certificates. This certificate can be completed
successfully during the day or evening.
Office Technology Skills - Medical
This short-term certificate is tailored to fit the needs of a student with no previous office experience or a student who wants to upgrade skills in the medical field. Emphasis is placed on current office technology needs, medical terminology and medical office procedures, and effective job-search techniques. All courses meet requirements for the Administrative Assistant—Medical Associate Degree program and the Medical Transcriptionist Certificate. Most of the courses can be completed successfully during the day or evening college.
Professional
The certificate in Professional
Sales program prepares students for entry level positions
in sales. Employees can use this program to prepare for upward
mobility and/or update sales and marketing skills. All courses
satisfactorily completed in this certificate program will
apply to the Associate in Applied Science degree with a major
in Management or Marketing.
Associate in Applied Science Degree
Accounting
Accounting
prepares the student for employment as a general accountant
for a small business or an accounting assistant in CPA firms,
governmental agencies and private industry. In addition to
financial, managerial, cost, tax and intermediate accounting,
the student elects one of the following options: computer
information systems, office technology or general business.
Desktop
Publishing Graphic Design
This program is designed to prepare
graduates for entry-level positions in those office careers
requiring a knowledge of desktop publishing. Emphasis is placed
on development of basic secretarial skills combined with training
in desktop publishing. Students may assume positions as full-time
desktop publishers or positions involving a blend of secretarial
duties and desktop publishing.
Management
Management
is designed for (1) those who plan to manage their own store
or business and (2) those who plan to work as technicians,
supervisors or managers in stores or businesses. Using career
electives, a specialized management curriculum can be designed
to meet the needs of students in such diverse areas as marketing,
retailing, sales, manufacturing, construction, transportation,
technology and the trades.
Marketing
The
Marketing program prepares students for employment positions
in sales, retailing, marketing and other related business
areas. It can also be used to upgrade skills and knowledge
of presently employed personnel to allow them to further advance
their careers. This program provides the broad background
necessary to succeed in modern marketing with special emphasis
placed on pricing, promotion, distribution and product conception
within both the profit and not-for-profit sectors.
Information Technology - Computer Applications
The concentration in Computer Applications provides students with entry-level skills necessary to work as a help-desk technician, software trainer or other computer professional. The student will be provided with a well-rounded computer curriculum featuring courses in application and graphics software, hardware, internet, web page design, networking, and programming.
Information Technology - Network
Administration
Network Administration provides an
intensive course of study that prepares a student to work
in a business environment while maintaining or administering
a microcomputer network. The core required classes cover both
the physical and operating system environment in great detail
and can be used as preparation for network certification.
The core is supplemented by programming and microcomputer
applications courses as well as other general business courses.
The program allows students to have a broad scope of marketable
knowledge in the business/computer industry.
Information Technology Programming
The concentration in Programming
provides the necessary training to prepare a student to enter
business, industry or government work in programming and
related jobs. The core required classes cover general areas
of Information Technology and the concentration classes cover
a variety of application programming languages, web programming
and database interactivity.
Information Technology - Web Technology
The concentration in Web Technology degree is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to work independently or in business as a web page designer. The student will be provided with a well-rounded computer curriculum featuring courses in application and graphics software, hardware, internet, web page design, and programming.
Office
Management
This program is designed to meet the
educational needs of students who have already attained quality
secretarial skills but desire to further their education in
order to qualify for promotion to higher level positions as
office managers. At the job-entry level, graduates may serve
as an aid to the executive in a staff capacity by absorbing
responsibility for administrative detail. Admission is granted
on the basis of pre-tests given in the Business Division.
Administrative Assistant - Executive
Administrative Assistant graduates are prepared for a broad range of office positions in business, industry, government, legal and medical facilities. Emphasis is placed on a combination of skill building courses which provide for a high degree of occupational competency. Upon completion of the program students are qualified for entry level positions as administrative secretaries, executive assistants, word processors and transcriptionists.
Administrative Assistant - Legal
Legal administrative assistant graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in law offices. Emphasis is placed on development of a knowledge of legal terminology and specialized skills necessary to the legal secretary, legal administrative assistant or legal transcriptionist.
Administrative Assistant -Medical
Medical administrative assistant graduates are prepared for entry-level office positions in medically-related facilities such as hospitals, clinics and physicians' offices. Emphasis is placed on development of skills in medical terminology and specialized skills necessary to the medical secretary, medical transcriptionist, medical billing clerk or medical records clerk.
